Last night I had a curious dream. In my dream I walked to the local cemetery, a mini Highgate and in the middle of it was a rather large tree, with every sort of bird nesting in it. People were watching the birds in their nests and waiting. In front of the tree was a swing set, I tried to take a seat to watch as well, but the swings were broken. So I stood with the rest, waiting. Watching.
A few days ago I started reading Corvus by Esther Woolfson, I had to put Daphne aside as my editing brain keeps doing unfair edits all over fiction. If you have been following my blog, I have a little obsession with smart birds. So it is a real delight to read Woolfson's book, as I methodically edit away at my own. When I get a chapter of my own edited in a day, it is a treat to come and warm my mind on the wildness of Woolfson's birds.
What I have found most beautiful about her writing, is her astute and erudite observation. She really sees and reflects, in her crystal clear style, what it is she is seeing/feeling and it really makes me feel wistful as I read it, for her birds, for nature, for seeing nature in the city. Her writing breathes. I really love the expression of the rook, named Chicken on the front cover, such a quizzically smart expression, a beak like a smile.

Wow, what an interesting dream! I've always had very vivid dreams, much like yours--very symbolic.
If I was to hazard a guess at interpreting it, it would be this:
The cemetary represents the end of something, a project nearly completed, a book almost done. The tree with birds probably stems from your interest in birds, plus the book you're reading and the one you're editing--all something to consider and watch.
The broken swings inhibit you from sitting--you're meant to stand and watch with everyone else and wait.
Perhaps you must learn to be patient as your own gifts are fully developed and your own style becomes as beatiful as what you so admire. Sometimes it is okay to be a spectator; sometimes we have to be to learn something. :)
I don't profess to be a dream analyst, but this was my immediate reaction to the description of your dream.
Happy reading to you from a new Saloner. :)
